Content from old HTML and custom-coded websites on an asu.edu domain must be copied/pasted, rebuilt, and re-uploaded (images and files) into a brand-compliant managed website platform. The College maintains two managed website options:
- Faculty site platform
Inexpensive for units/free for individuals. Suitable for faculty/lab sites and best for small, simple sites < 10 pages (no dynamic content, databases, etc.). Currently in beta, with more features planned for the future and offered as a self-service option. - The College Drupal Distribution
$1,300/yr. Suitable for center/department/school sites. This platform can support hundreds of pages, dynamic content, and integrations with ASU systems. The College web team provides technical support.
With both options, The College web team maintains the server and CMS software. We fix bugs, implement features, resolve security issues and install updates. The site owner/stakeholder manages their content (text, images, files, etc.) via the CMS tools.
We've optimized these environments for creating and managing public-facing informational/brochure-type sites. Neither option works well as a file repository or a place to archive large quantities of historical data. Consider the following platforms when hosting large amounts of data, depending on the type of media:
- Host video content on a platform like YouTube or Vimeo.
- Use Dropbox for large file/document/pdf archives.
- Image galleries are well-suited for Flickr.
- Host audio on a podcast website.
Most of the above media platforms support embedding content on other sites and can be made accessible via links or embed codes.
